Microfilm Reader: Why Conversion Is Better

If you have a large, or even small quantity of microfilm in this day and age the first thing that you'll probably think is that you should get a microfilm reader to be able to view the microfilm. This would be particularly the case if you or many people are planning to use them on a regular basis.

However the microfilm reader can come with a lot of issues. As microfilms are now something of a niche subject, so is the need for a reader and the cost of them goes up significantly. Even a second hand reader you can pay as much as £3,000.

On top of this they are, for the most part, cumbersome, large, ugly and difficult to transport and move around if it should need to be tranferred to different rooms, offices and even buildings in order for someone else to use it. And that's also a big issue with the microfilm reader; it can only be used by one person at a time.

If you need some information from a particular microfilm and someone else is using the machine then you will have to wait and get behind on your work. This is obviously not ideal, and you're obviously not going to invest in more than one of them due to their immense cost and space filling frame.

So although a microfilm reader might seem like a great idea initially, on closer inspection you might find that it's actually not so hot.

This is where Pearl Scan come in. We can take all your microfilms, whether you have a large amount or a smaller one off lot, and we will convert your microfilms into the digital formats of your choice and index them into an order that you would like, efficiently and at a great price.

microfilm scanning serviceMicrofilm Conversion: What we do

Before we get properly started with your microfilm scanning in it's full process, we will firstly want to make sure you're happy with our work. So what we'll do first is produce some sample scans for you to take a look at. Once you are happy, the microfilm scanning process can fully begin.

Your microfilms will be scanned at high resolution, any enhancements are made if required and we will then index the images to a specification of your choosing. This will make searching through them even easier.

Your microfilms will be treated with the greatest of care and respect when they are delivered to us by our driver and from the start to the finish of the project we make sure to take extra precautions so no harm will come to your films.

Microfilm Scanning: The advantages over a Microfilm Reader

microfilm scanningOther than the previously mentioned advantages of having your microfilms scanned over the purchase or rent of a microfilm reader, there are other advantages that make the decision that little bit more easy:

  • Text Search: Your images will be categorised just how you want them so a quick text search will find your files in no time.

  • Access Anywhere: You will be able to access your microfilm files from anywhere as long as you have a computer, memory stick or a CD with the digital files on them.

  • Better Security: Microfilms are old and thing that are old tend to wear with time. Because your files are now in a digital format, should your microfilms become damaged you'll have backups of all your files available to you.

  • Timesaving: Files can be found instantly rather than seeping through hundreds of microfilms.

  • Spacesaving: The space previously occupied by your microfilms is now free to be used as you like if you decide to no longer keep them.
